Charkrienorrathip Sevikul is a career diplomat with over 25 years experiences in the foreign service. He has fond affinity for the Middle East region having spent over a third of his diplomatic career in, or related to, the region: from being a part of the team that established the Royal Thai Embassy in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2003 (until 2008), before applying to be posted as the Consul at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran, for 5 years (2010 – 2015),and most recently he was posted as the Minister Counsellor and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara, the Republic of Turkiye (2017 – 2021). Furthermore, he held the position of the Director of Middle East Affairs during crucial periods namely the final stages of the normalization of the diplomatic relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Kingdom of Thailand, and the Hamas-Israeli conflict which saw a number of Thai nationals held captives. He was appointed the Chief of Staff, Office of the Foreign Minister, between 2024 – 2026, and was appointed as the Consul-General of Thailand in Dubai on 18 May 2026.

                Apart from being a career diplomat, Charkrienorrathip is also a writer and translator with over 40 published works, such as “The History of Cats” (author), “History of the Ottoman Empire” (author), “Last Train to Istanbul” (translated from the work of Turkish writer Ayse Kulin), and “Flesh” (translated from the 2025 Booker Prize winner David Szalay). He has received a number of important awards such as ‘New Zealand Alumni Hall of Fame’ Award in 2022, ‘Outstanding Civil Servant’ Award of  the Thai MFA in 2022. On the literature front, he was awarded the ‘Outstanding Thai Language User Award’ by the Department of Cultural Promotion, the Ministry of Culture in 2024, and the ‘Surintaracha Award for Outstanding Translators of the Year 2025’ by the Translators and Interpreters Association of Thailand (TIAT) in October 2025. Most recently, his “History of Persia: The Achaemenid Empire” had been awarded the prestigious Nur Literary Award 2026 in the category of outstanding documentary book.  

                Charkrienorrathip completed his Bachelor of Arts in Political Sciences and Japanese, from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand, and Master of Arts in International Economics and Finance from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. He worked as a correspondent at TV Asahi Bangkok Office before entering the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand in 2001.

               Charkrienorrathip is married to Mrs. Bangorn Sevikul, and have two children.
